Chiffies

Chiffies is a product line that tackles a critical issue facing young Latinas: the lasting impact of unrealistic beauty standards on mental well-being. Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I, along with many others, experienced how cultural norms and beauty ideals contribute to the development of mental health disorders in adulthood. These disorders, often stemming from extreme dieting and negative self-talk, remain under-addressed within our communities due to stigma.

Chiffies confronts this challenge by promoting body acceptance through playful and empowering graphics featuring Sol, the brand’s main character. She serves as a relatable figure for young Latinas who want to learn about body positivity and the harmful societal norms within our cultures. Though Sol is predominantly depicted nude, my artistic approach prioritizes self-expression and empowerment over overt sexuality.
